Working at home or having a home-based business has many advantages than having a 8 to 10 hour job working as an employee. when it comes to being an entrepreneur, you get to be your own boss, express your own ideas and make your own decisions. Working at home can give you a sense of personal satisfaction, but being your own boss does not give you total independence. In fact, running an independent home-based business takes a lot more work than simply being an employee.
One of the nice things about working at home is that you don’t have to commute and dress up for work so it can save you money on gas and avoid traffic. One car off the road means one car less emitting carbon dioxide into the air – if you use fossil-based fuel that is. it can keep you from losing a day’s wage from an outside job due to the hassle thus increasing your productivity. You also have flexible work hours because you can set your own work schedule regarding the number of hours you want to work including the days you want to take off. when it comes to family, you can be with them every time and not miss a day of your kids’ life growing up. You can even make them help you run the business when they are old enough if they are into it. Finally, choosing to run your online business gives you the benefit of working from the comforts of your own office at home where you’re most comfortable plus you get to work in a field that you love doing.
However, since you are your own boss, there isn’t anyone to guide you in making decisions so any rewards or consequences afterwards fall solely on your shoulders. even without a boss, you still have to answer to your clients, whose requirements and requests might even be more stringent. another disadvantage of working at home is that you may become prone to interruptions especially if you have small children. Kids, especially toddlers can become distractions to your work which may end up causing family tension limiting your productivity, unless you find a way not to let them to, like setting rules within the house during your allotted office hours. Televisions and other forms of entertainment at home can also distract you which may lead to extra breaks so working at home requires more discipline and self control than working in a normal office. if your business requires you to entertain clients personally, you may also need to keep your home clean and presentable in case your clients decide to drop by and pay you a visit especially if you have your home address posted on your website. So extra effort is needed to keep the house presentable at all times.
Time management can also be a problem. even if you have a set of schedule laid out, you’ll find it difficult to follow these most of the time because working online means you have to deal with different types of people in different time zones. for instance, if one client suddenly requires more time than normal you’ll have to be there to help.
Running a home-based business as an entrepreneur can be rewarding than just being employed and making somebody else rich, but it requires strict planning, discipline, dedication, perseverance and hard work. No only do you consider business but also quality time with your family.
